How Facebook collects and re-creates your own identity for advertising
Our project, developed during a Density Design's workshop, is an experiment on digital footprints, data collection and virtual identity on Facebook. We tried to find out how Facebook collect our passive digital footprints, how and if it is possible to influence this data collection and how this process build and especially stores information about our digital identity.
A digital footprint is the data that is left behind by users on digital services. There are two main classifications for digital footprints: passive and active. While active digital footprints are created when personal data is released deliberately by the user for the purpose of sharing information,  a passive digital footprint is collected without the owner knowing and can be stored in many ways depending on the situation.
In this workshop we have been asked to think about our digital footprints and produce an artifact that could show our conclusions about this topic, in order to make people more conscious of the importance of digital footprints in everyday life and the big on-going collection of data.
